Music Health Day organised by Swissmedmusica

With the «National Music Health Day», Swissmedmusica is organising an information day for musicians on the subject of healthy music-making in collaboration with the grassroots associations of the music industry. The aim is to provide professionals and amateurs with offers and strategies on the topics of health and prevention, thanks to which active music-making does not lead to health problems and the joy and inner fire is maintained throughout the entire life cycle.

Bios

Professor Dr Peer Abilgaard is Chief Physician at the Clinic for Mental Health at the Protestant Hospital in Gelsenkirchen and Professor of Musicians’ Medicine at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne. Since 2023, he has been an examiner at the Westphalia Lippe Medical Association and scientific director at the Medical Academy for Continuing Medical Education and Training of the North Rhine Medical Association (North Rhine Academy). In 2010, he was honoured by the German President Christian Wulff on the occasion of his extraordinary services in caring for the victims of the Duisburg Love Parade in Berlin. Abilgaard is also an editor and author in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy.

Dr Christoph Reich is a specialist in rheumatology, physical medicine and rehabilitation with certificates in sports medicine SGSM, manual medicine SAMM and interventional pain therapy SSIPM. Specialist practice since 1991, in joint practice with two other rheumatologists. Various sports physician functions. Christoph Reich was head team doctor at Zurich Football Club for several years. He heads the Swiss Paralympic Committee medical service, is the association doctor for the Swiss Association for Disabled Sports Plusport and is the doctor in charge of the Regional Performance Centre for Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Dr Cinzia Cruder holds a Master of Arts in Music Performance in Flute and a Master of Advanced Studies in Research Methods in the Arts from the University School of Music of the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana. She holds a PhD from the School of Health Sciences at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh (UK) and is currently working on a project analysing risk factors for the development of musculoskeletal disorders in music students. She has developed a “health module”, an innovative prevention course that has recently been integrated into the student curriculum at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana to create a stronger link between scientific research and education.

Gerhard Wolters studied recorder, general music education and bassoon in Detmold and Duisburg. Worked for almost 20 years in the management of large music schools in Germany and Switzerland. Writes practical guides for teaching (e.g. “Practising is cool…!”). At music schools and universities, he has led over 1000 further training courses on music education topics. As head of the Academy for Music Education Innovation, he has been training interested teachers in his Multidimensional Instrumental Teaching (MDU) programme since 2007.
